𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐚'𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐢𝐣𝐢
President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, received the Letter of Credence of the new Canadian High Commissioner to Fiji, His Excellency Keith Smith, at State House today.
High Commissioner Smith presented his credentials following inspection of a 25-member Guard of Honour from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.
President Ratu Naiqama extended his congratulations to High Commissioner Smith on his new appointment and, on behalf of the Government and people of Fiji, conveyed best wishes for a successful tenure.
Prior to this role, High Commissioner Smith held several senior positions within the Ministry of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, including Director of Intergovernmental and International Relations. From 2013 to 2016, he served as the Director of Policy, Research, and International Affairs at the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC), later advancing to Director General of Policy and Communications at the CHRC.
Between 2016 and 2018, High Commissioner Smith worked as Director of Policy for the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. In this capacity, he managed a wide portfolio of justice-related issues, including the Indigenous Rights Framework, criminal justice system reforms, family law reform, 2SLGBTQI+ issues, and international human rights and justice matters.
